2011 Rx Laughter Primetime TV Humanistic Writing Competition:

Submission Information (1 page - please read entire text):

Awards Announcement

The Basics:
We are extending the deadline date at the request of numerous students. The new deadline date is June 30, 2011 at 12am PST. (extended from the previous deadline of April 15, 2011).

Winner will be notified in August of 2011.  Award to be scheduled in August or September of 2011 at a mutually-agreed upon day depending upon Production and writing schedules of "Mike & Molly" Producers and Playtone Producers/Development Executives.

You are welcome to submit spec scripts of a primetime television comedy or drama series currently on the air (network and cable) and spec scripts of an original concept of your own (such as a pilot) for a primetime television comedy or drama series. The most important point is that the spec(s) that you submit must speak to the human condition in an uplifting, inspiring way. The spec(s) must also be unproduced.

Winner will be chosen by primetime television experts (executives and writers).

Note: For legal reasons, we cannot accept specs for "Big Bang Theory", Two and a Half Men" or "Mike and Molly", because the Winner will be meeting with and having their spec read by one of their current Writer/Producers at Chuck Lorre Productions. All other scripts by other production companies are accepted. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation in this regard!

Winner will meet with studio development executive(s) and writer/producers who will read your script, offer their insights, and answer your questions in a one-on-one setting. See Awards Announcement for details about this year's competition.

For example: 2009/2010 participating Supporters included Playtone Productions (Founded by Tom Hanks and Gary Goetzman), William Morris Endeavor Entertainment Talent & Literary Agency, and ABC Entertainment.

Final winner will be contacted by Rx Laughter directly. Rx Laughter will coordinate the meetings between the Winner and the Supporters.

No previous paid writing experience is necessary to apply. However, we do require that the spec script be professional. College students who have taken writing courses are especially welcome to apply. You can submit a spec script that you have prepared for class credit as long as it meets the criteria of addressing the human condition in an inspiring and creative approach.

You are ineligible for this Competition if you are or have been staffed as a writer on a primetime cable or network series.

Writers may submit as many different specs as they would like, but each spec must be submitted with the submission fee per script.

Writing Teams for a spec script may apply with the 1 per spec script submission fee.

An interview may be requested of semi finalists before final selection of the Winner.

We may ask the finalist(s) to provide an additional writing sample before determining the winner of the competition. However, this is not a requirement.
